I joined the HRMT program here at Auburn because I believe it will help me in achieving my future career goals. My dream job is to work for the Disney Event Group at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. By mixing the business knowledge I have learned in this major with my own creativity and imagination, I believe I will be well prepared to pursue my dreams upon graduation.

This major calls for a lot. It calls for sincerity, constant kindness, helpful nature, and my favorite a killer smile.  I joined this major because it is the one where my future job is not a job it is common nature. There are of course the amazing opportunities to travel to places few can and who can refuse a beverage appreciation class. Every day I am able to be a part of a memories and that is priceless in my eyes. That is why I choose HRMT.

I chose hotel and restaurant management because I love the atmosphere of the service industry. I enjoy serving others and socializing with them and I believe HRMT allows me to do so. I am most interested in the event and catering side of the hospitality industry. I hope to one day have my own event planning company.

The hospitality industry is one of the largest industries in the world. Knowing that and having a passion for food and beverage programs and serving others, are the reasons why I wanted to be a part of the HRMT program. Auburn's HRMT program allows you to experience a variety of applicable hospitality classes such as food production, Beverage appreciation, hospitality finance etc. I absolutely love being a part of the HRMT program and look forward to  using the knowledge I have acquired here at Auburn out in the hospitality industry.

My name is Marley Schmid and I am from Decatur, Al. I am a senior in the Hotel and Restaurant Management program and plan to graduate in August of 2013. It wasn't until the summer after my sophomore year that I discovered the Hotel and Restaurant Management program. I had started my first job in the hospitality industry, as a cook in a café, when a fellow coworker told me about the many exciting opportunities the program had to offer and suggested I switch majors. After researching a little further I decided that HRMT was the major for me! War Eagle!

After spending two years in the department of Nutrition and Dietetics I decided to re-evaluate my career path.  After some research, I chose Hotel and Restaurant Management as my new major and career choice for several reasons.  I felt that coupled with a minor in business , the degree would make me a very marketable candidate for many jobs across many spectrums.  I knew that my desire to cater and serve customers would be a perfect fit for the hospitality field.

I joined the HRMT program the second semester of my freshman year. I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do, and since my roommate at the time was an HRMT major I was always hearing great things about the program. Now that I am a senior I'm very happy I switched to HRMT. I hope to be planning events once I graduate in May and the HRMT program at Auburn University has really helped prepare me for what I want to do in the future.

Leslie Bahr

Hoover, Alabama

I joined the HRMT program because I love the fact that hospitality is a people-oriented industry.  I enjoy working in the industry because she knows when going into work; I want to make people happy and hopefully their day a little better.

When I first started at Auburn, I was in prenursing. By the end of the second semester, I knew that nursing was not for me. I started thinking about what to change my major to, and thought about how my dad and I had been talking about how cool it would be to open up a restaurant of our own one day. I started looking into to Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRMT) program and decided that it was definitely the way to go. People say that HRMT is completely different than nursing; which it is in some ways, but HRMT is about hospitality service. Both fields involve helping, serving, and meeting the needs of others in order to satisfy them whether it is with food and wine or medical needs. The Hotel and Restaurant Management program is a great fit for me and for what I want to do with my life.

Constance Moore

I initially chose to join the HRMT program in hopes of one day owning my own bakery. However, after being emerged into the classes and various experiences, I quickly realized how much I love to serve others. I'm passionate about people and their happiness and have found that the hospitality industry is surrounded around satisfying others' needs. Thanks to my experiences in the program, I have learned how much I enjoy serving others through food and entertainment. As a senior, I am excited about graduating and pursuing my career in the event industry!

I joined Hotel and Restaurant Management first because of my fascination with hotels. However, after being in the program for one semester I realized the passion my fellow class mates and professors had for people. I quickly realized that I had the same passion. Therefore, I am a HRMT major because I enjoy meeting different people from all over the world and having a chance to make their trip a wonderful experience just by kind gestures.
